Sustainability
It is important that the design process considers all aspects of the built environment including material selection, construction system/method and orientation on the site.
We endeavour to advise our clients of the most sustainable approach to design from an early stage.
Site Selection
The location of the site can dictate the proposed design, creating a layout that is user friendly, incorporating solar gain and privacy with an emphasis on reducing energy loss from the building fabric.
Materials
Local and salvaged materials are encouraged for use on projects where possible to reduce the effect of long distance transportation and supporting local businesses, whilst enhancing the character of the local vernacular
Renewable Energy
We encourage the use of renewable energy systems, ie, solar water heating, photovoltaic’s, ground source heat pumps, wind turbines, wood pellet/ chip boilers, bore hole systems, rainwater harvesting and reed bed sewage systems.
Some of which receive grants to help with capital costs.
